Can sinus plain scanning detect tumors

Sinus plain scanning refers to plain sinus CT scanning, and generally sinus plain scanning can detect tumors in the nose. Some sinus tumors have more obvious lesion characteristics on imaging, which is valuable for definitive diagnosis. There are also some sinus tumors for which CT plain scanning is only used to determine the extent of the lesion, but not to make a definitive diagnosis.
Common sinus tumors, including sinus osteoma, sinus chondroma, inverted papilloma and so on. Once sinus tumor is considered, it should be combined with symptoms, nasal endoscopy, sinus CT or MRI and other means to fully understand the condition, and if necessary, also feasible pathology to confirm the diagnosis.
1. Sinus osteoma: CT scan of sinus can see round or ovoid bone density shadow, and determine the location, size, scope and attachment of osteoma, so it is very meaningful for clear diagnosis.
2. Sinus chondrosarcoma: CT scan of sinus can clearly show the boundary of the tumor and its invasion to the surrounding structures, the center is transparent, and if there is calcification or ossification, it will be special speckled shadow. Pathologic examination can confirm the diagnosis.
3. Nasal involutional papilloma: CT scan of sinus can help the diagnosis, showing soft tissue density shadow of unilateral sinus, the lateral wall of nasal cavity can have bone destruction, and the sinus septum is fuzzy. Osteophytes are present at the origin of the tumor.MRI is more useful in defining the origin and extent of the tumor.
If a sinus scan is required to detect a tumor, it is necessary to consult a medical institution with high-resolution CT and have the films read and evaluated by experienced radiologists and rhinologists.
