Vaginal douching is an adjunctive method used in gynecology to treat certain vaginal infections. However, some women nowadays prefer to use vaginal douching or are used to douche with some medicated lotions to prevent STD/HIV regardless of the disease in their lower body. In fact, these practices are wrong. Normally, adult women’s vagina has the ability to “self-clean” and produce substances that protect the vagina from harmful germs, but if you douche your vagina frequently, these substances will be washed away, disrupting the normal vaginal physiology and causing dysbiosis. It will also make the vagina feel dry and uncomfortable, making it more susceptible to diseases.
