What are the treatments for epilepsy

The main treatment for epilepsy is to give medication. The commonly used drugs are traditional antiepileptic drugs and new antiepileptic drugs, and traditional antiepileptic drugs are generally preferred. In case of poor results and side effects, newer antiepileptic drugs may also be used. The main new antiepileptic drugs commonly used include levetiracetam, oxcarbazepine, lamotrigine, and gabapentin. Traditional antiepileptic drugs are commonly used clinically, such as carbamazepine, sodium valproate, sodium phenytoin, phenobarbital, ethosuximide, and clonazepam. If the patient has frontal lobe epilepsy or temporal lobe epilepsy, surgical treatment can also be used, mainly including partial frontal lobectomy and partial temporal lobectomy. If the patient has secondary epilepsy, there is usually a clear cause. Common causes include cranial tumors, infectious diseases of the central nervous system, commonly encephalitis. It is also seen in cerebrovascular diseases such as cerebral hemorrhage and cerebral infarction. If the patient has systemic diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus and diabetes mellitus, seizures can also occur and the main focus is to actively control the primary disease. If the patient has more than two seizures, symptomatic treatment with antiepileptic drugs can also be routinely given.
