How to control fatty liver through exercise and diet?

Patients with fatty liver disease should be educated about the health risks of obesity and excessive alcohol consumption to correct poor lifestyles and behaviors; overweight/obese individuals need to lose weight, especially reduce waist circumference and prevent weight regain, and excessive drinkers need to quit or significantly reduce alcohol consumption and prevent and treat withdrawal syndrome. Drinking more tea and coffee may help in the prevention and treatment of metabolic disorders and fatty liver disease. Patients with combined overweight/obesity with fatty liver disease should control total dietary calories, and a 500 kcal daily reduction in diet is recommended, aiming for a 5% to 10% reduction in body mass within six months. A balanced diet low in sugar and fat is recommended for patients with NAFLD, reducing the intake of sucrose or fructose-containing beverages as well as saturated fats (animal fats and palm oil, etc.) and trans fats (fried foods), and increasing the content of dietary fiber (legumes, cereals, vegetables and fruits, etc.). Very low calorie diet for obesity should be carried out under the guidance of a clinical dietitian. Patients with combined malnutrition and lipid deficiency need to ensure a positive caloric and nitrogen balance and supplementation with vitamins and trace elements under the guidance of a dietitian. Moderate aerobic exercise (e.g. cycling, fast walking, swimming, dancing, etc.), more than 4 times a week, with a cumulative time of at least 150-250 min and a target heart rate > 170 – age after exercise. Light or moderate resistance muscle exercise (dumbbell lifting, push-ups, etc.) is preferable 2 times per week to obtain greater metabolic improvement. A combination of diet and exercise therapy should be emphasized. excessive exercise is contraindicated in people with FBG > 14-16 mmol/L, large fluctuations in blood glucose, acute metabolic complications of diabetes, and severe complications in the heart and kidneys and other organs.
