There is no such thing as “a single sign of kidney pain and low back pain”. The physical examination “renal tenderness and pressure” can be one of the easy ways to differentiate between kidney pain and low back pain.
Lower back pain can be caused by lumbar muscle strain, spinal disorders, and kidney diseases. Renal tenderness and pain on physical examination can be a diagnostic tool to determine whether kidney pain is caused by kidney disease.
Kidney percussion pain is also known as rib spine angle percussion pain, the practice is the examiner will be the left palm flat on the rib spine angle (ribs and spine to form the angle), the right hand with a clenched fist with the right force to knock the back of the left hand, when the kidneys have inflammation, stones, there can be varying degrees of percussion pain.
When there are inflammation and other diseases in the kidneys, there can also be pressure points in the corresponding parts, such as rib spine point (the apex of the rib spine angle), rib waist point (the intersection of the 12th rib and psoas muscle), quarter rib point (the anterior end of the 10th rib) and so on.
In contrast, lumbar muscle strain and spinal disorders usually do not present with renal percussion pain or pressure pain.
Physical examination has some reference significance in the differentiation of kidney pain and low back pain, but it mainly relies on the relevant laboratory and imaging examinations in regular hospitals.
It is recommended that any discomfort occurs, it is recommended to consult the regular hospital in a timely manner, and follow the doctor’s instructions for standardized treatment.
