What are the precautions to take before and after gastroscopy?

Gastroscopy is the single best way to diagnose gastrointestinal diseases and is the clinical gold standard. Before the gastroscopy, you should know more about the precautions before and after gastroscopy, only then can the gastroscopy be carried out smoothly and reduce the occurrence of uncomfortable symptoms. So what are the precautions before and after gastroscopy? Precautions before gastroscopy: 1, the first day no smoking, so as not to cough during the examination to affect the intubation; no smoking can also reduce gastric acid secretion, to facilitate the doctor’s observation. 2, the patient should fast for at least 6 hours before the examination. Such as the morning examination, the previous day after dinner to fast, the same day without breakfast; such as the afternoon examination, breakfast can eat light semi-liquid food, noon fasting. Serious illness and physical weakness after fasting physical strength is difficult to support, the examination should be intravenous hypertonic glucose solution before. 3, in order to eliminate the patient’s nervousness, reduce gastric juice secretion and gastric peristalsis, drive away the foam in the stomach, so that the image is clearer, if necessary, the doctor 20-30 minutes before the examination to give patients with sedatives, antispasmodics and expectorants. In this regard, the patient should be aware of this and give cooperation. 4, in order to make the gastroscope can pass through the pharynx smoothly, before doing gastroscopy generally have to use pharyngeal , medication essentials patients should follow the doctor’s requirements. Pain relief is taken locally and is limited to the pharynx and upper esophagus. Before using the above mentioned medicine, tell your doctor about your drug allergy history, i.e. what drugs you were allergic to in the past. Local pain relief is achieved by spraying 2% dicaine or 2% sero-caine with the patient opening his mouth and making an “a” sound, when the soft palate and lingual-palatal arch move up and the tongue root moves down, so that the back of the tongue, throat and soft palate are sprayed with the drug, three times in succession. After each spray, the patient swallowed the medicine left in the mouth to stop the pain in the lower part of the throat. There is also the use of paste, contained in the mouth tilted head so that the drug in the throat to stay natural flow into the esophagus, to play a local pain relief effect. 5, the patient and the doctor to cooperate, the patient before the examination to urinate to empty the bladder, enter the examination room, loosen the collar and trouser belt, remove the dentures and glasses, take the left side lying position, or switch to other positions as needed. After entering the mirror, you should not bite the mirror with your teeth to prevent breaking the plastic tube of the mirror body. The body and head should not be turned to prevent damage to the mirror and injury to internal organs. If there is any discomfort, the patient should tolerate it for a period of time. If the patient cannot tolerate it, he/she can indicate to the surgeon (doctor or nurse) with hand signals so that necessary measures can be taken. Note after gastroscopy: 1. After the examination, the patient sits up and spits out saliva. As some air is injected during the examination, some people still have a feeling of abdominal distension and belching, although it has been sucked out when retiring the mirror. Because the pain-relieving effect has not disappeared, eating too early can easily make food enter the trachea causing choking or aspiration pneumonia. Therefore, 2 hours after the examination, try to eat liquid food again after the effect of pharyngeal has disappeared. Within 1 to 4 days, patients may feel discomfort or pain in the pharynx, but it does not hinder eating and drinking. Most people can work as usual, and those who are more ill can be given rest, and drivers cannot drive alone that day. It is best to have a family member accompany the gastroscopy and escort them home after the examination. 2, the pharynx may have pain or foreign body feeling, can contain iodine throat tablets, grass coral tablets, etc., the symptoms can be reduced or disappear. Patients who have undergone biopsy (especially the elderly) should eat a semi-liquid diet for 1 to 2 days after the examination, avoiding raw, cold, hard and irritating foods. Smoking, drinking alcohol, tea and coffee are prohibited to avoid inducing trauma bleeding.
