I. Concept Arterial ulcers of the lower extremity are often caused by arterial lesions resulting in ischemic necrotic skin breakdown of the local tissue of the body. Second, the pathology and etiology of arterial ulcers of the lower extremities is one of the complications of atherosclerotic occlusive disease. Atherosclerotic occlusive disease is a disease in which atherosclerotic lesions involve peripheral arteries and cause chronic occlusion. It is mostly seen in large and medium-sized arteries in the lower part of the abdominal aorta. Atherosclerotic plaques and their internal bleeding or plaque rupture lead to secondary thrombosis and gradually produce luminal narrowing or occlusion, resulting in ischemia of the affected limb, affecting the blood supply to the lower limb, causing motor dysfunction, resting pain, ulceration or gangrene. Clinical manifestations The ulcer is usually located on the distal side of the limb, i.e., toe (finger) and foot root, with severe pain, especially at night, which can be relieved by a drooping limb, with irregular ulcer edges at the beginning and later jagged, with unhealthy gray-white granulation tissue covering the bottom and chronic ischemic changes in the surrounding tissue. The necrotic tissues and the surrounding area are not clearly defined. Treatment The treatment of arterial ulcers of the lower extremity is a systematic project, which includes: ulcer debridement, blood circulation reconstruction, ulcer care, tissue reconstruction, etc., and requires close cooperation of several specialties. Arterial ulcers are the most difficult type of lower extremity ulcers to cure. The causes of atherosclerosis are generally considered to be: diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, smoking, lack of exercise, family history, etc. Atherosclerosis is a vascular disease that occurs as people age, and its pattern is usually to occur in adolescence and to worsen and develop in middle and old age. Therefore, the management of vascular health in middle and old age should become a routine medical checkup item and draw the common attention of the general public.
