In clinical practice, we often see children over 14 years old brought by their parents to see amblyopia. When we encounter this situation, as a doctor, we are helpless because the treatment of amblyopia is required before the age of 6 and at the latest not later than 13 years old, once the age is older, there is no chance of cure. What is amblyopia? Amblyopia is a condition in which a child’s eyes are not diseased, but his or her vision is not at the level of a normal person of the same age, which is caused by prolonged disuse. Some of them are diseases, such as congenital cataract, congenital glaucoma, strabismus, etc. These parents will go to the hospital for treatment in time; while some are just refractive problems, such as farsightedness, myopia or astigmatism, etc. These can be detected early and treated early, but often parents tend to ignore them. So here are a few simple methods for parental reference: 1, if the child is in a place of strong light, a squint, then we must go to the hospital to check whether there is a problem with the vision of the squinting eye. 2, early to check the child’s vision, can be timely detection of amblyopia. Generally 3-year-old children will check their eyesight, 3-5 years old vision is not less than 0.6 on the line. 3, when children squint to see things, not necessarily myopia, may be farsighted combined with amblyopia, must go to the hospital for an optometric examination.
