The female breast has the special function of breastfeeding and participating in sexual activities, from growth, development, pregnancy, breastfeeding until degeneration, firm, full and healthy breasts are the symbol of female external beauty. However, when the enemy of female charm – breast disease, everything may no longer be beautiful, life will be steeped in many worries. When mastitis, breast hyperplasia, benign breast tumors, breast cancer and other common female diseases occur, it is important not to take them lightly or to panic, but to pay high attention to them. During my work in breast clinic, I often encounter women who ask, “Is there a lump in my breast that could be breast cancer?” Some women may think, “My breast is not painful and there is no lump, so it must be okay. In clinical practice, we often encounter breast cancer without lumps, and we often encounter lumps that some women say are probably due to incorrect examination methods, and most of the lumps we encounter are benign. Therefore, we must abandon the misconception that if there is no lump, it is not breast cancer, but if there is a lump, it is definitely breast cancer. Acute mastitis is an acute purulent infection of the breast, most common in primiparous women. Mastocytosis, also known as mammary gland dysplasia, is an abnormality in the number and shape of breast structures due to varying degrees of hyperplasia and incomplete replenishment. It is neither an inflammatory disease nor a tumor. It belongs to the category of “breast fetish” in Chinese medicine, and its incidence accounts for about 40% of women of childbearing age and 75% of all breast diseases, and is the most common type of breast disease. It occurs at any age from puberty to menopause, mostly in women with high socioeconomic status, high education, early menarche, low birth status, older first pregnancy, non-lactation and late menopause. Mammary gland hyperplasia is mostly a physiological change due to endocrine imbalance; moreover, mammary gland hyperplasia is not a pre-cancerous lesion; mammary gland hyperplasia only has the possibility of cancer when there is a high degree of epithelial hyperplasia and atypical hyperplasia. Benign breast tumors include breast cysts, fibroadenoma, mammary gland malignancy, intraductal papillary tumors and cavernous hemangioma of the breast. Breast cancer is the most prevalent malignant tumor among women in western countries and has become a priority for prevention and treatment. The incidence rate of breast cancer in many major cities in China is increasing year by year, and it takes the first or second place among all kinds of tumors in women, becoming the number one killer of women’s health. Therefore, women should develop good health care habits, have regular checkups, and do not take it for granted that there is nothing wrong with them or mistake it for breast cancer if they have breast disease. It is reported that nearly 200,000 women die from breast cancer and malignant tumors in China every year, and the incidence rate is increasing and getting younger every year. So far, the etiology and pathogenesis of breast cancer have not been exactly suggested. Common risk factors for female breast cancer are: (1) high incidence age (35-55 years old); (2) no childbirth or high age first birth and no breastfeeding; (3) menarche earlier than 12 years old and menopause later than 50 years old; (4) family history of cancer, especially breast cancer, some data reported (5) history of benign breast diseases; (6) high sugar, high fat, high protein diet and postmenopausal obesity; (7) endocrine factors and external hormones, such as frequent consumption of artificially farmed shrimp, fish, chicken, pork, etc. and unreasonable use of health products; (8) ionizing radiation; (9) poor living habits; (10) environmental pollution, viral infections, etc.; (11) one side of the breast cancer; (12) the breast cancer is not breastfeeding. (11) breast cancer on one side; (12) emotional unhappiness and depression; (13) other systemic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, etc. The pathogenesis of breast cancer goes through the evolutionary process of normal – hyperplasia – atypical hyperplasia – carcinoma in situ – invasive carcinoma, where atypical hyperplasia is called precancerous lesion. It is important to note that precancerous lesions can persist for a considerable period of time, years or even decades. However, its length varies, and there are patients with sudden onset and seemingly no precancerous lesions can be detected, which is due to the short duration of precancerous lesions. It is also necessary to point out that precancerous lesions are reversible and can be cured. The meaning of cancer prevention is to control tumors in precancerous lesions, and to cure precancerous lesions is the most active prevention. Our breast specialist is the only department in the city that can use unique Chinese medical methods to achieve the above purpose. In fact, it is not terrible to have breast disease, as long as detailed diagnosis and treatment by specialists, it is entirely possible to reduce or stop the occurrence of breast cancer. If this disease is not taken seriously, it will be too late to regret after the cancer! At present, the diagnosis and treatment of breast enlargement is not standardized, so patients must go to regular specialized hospitals. Generally, after clinical examination by an experienced breast specialist, a standardized examination combined with breast ultrasound and mammography is conducted to rule out malignant changes. Ultrasound is a non-invasive examination method that uses the principle of ultrasound to determine the physical properties, morphological structure and functional status of human soft tissues, and can be used to make differential diagnosis of benign and malignant tumors and improve the positive diagnosis rate, especially for masses located deep in the gland, but ultrasound does not clearly show microcalcifications. Mammography is a low-dose mammography technique that can clearly show all layers of breast tissue and can detect breast hyperplasia, various benign and malignant masses and structural disorders of breast tissue. It is the most effective and reliable way for early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer. Due to the high false-negative rate and low positive rate of breast NIR examination, it has been gradually replaced by the above two examinations. “Early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment” is the main internationally recognized measure to prevent and treat breast cancer, which is called phase II prevention. Many breast cancers can be detected at the early stage when they cannot be touched, as long as regular breast examinations are done. For patients with lumps smaller than 3 cm, breast-conserving treatment is generally adopted. However, for patients with intermediate and advanced stages, neoadjuvant chemotherapy and other comprehensive measures can be taken before surgery, with the most appropriate and standardized treatment, in order to get the best chance of life and the best quality of life. As the people are food-oriented, many women may ask, “Is there a diet that will make the breasts more beautiful?” The answer is yes. During adolescence, protein, vitamins, trace elements and other substances in the diet can promote normal breast development, in addition to the glandular body, there is also fatty tissue in the breast, and the amount of fatty tissue is an important factor in determining the size of the breast. On the other hand, epidemiological studies on breast cancer show that breast cancer in North America and some Western European countries is significantly higher than in other countries and regions, which may be related to their dietary habits, such as excessive consumption of dairy products, meat, fried and baked foods, etc. Excessive intake of high fat and high calorie will increase the risk of breast cancer. Therefore, while ensuring the necessary nutrition and calories, we should try to consume more fruits, vegetables and cereals, eat more vegetarian food and less oily and thick products. The department takes the lead in treating various breast diseases by combining Chinese and Western medicine in our city and has achieved remarkable efficacy. For benign breast tumors, the department adopts concealed incision to meet the aesthetic requirements of a considerable number of patients, treats patients as relatives from the patient’s point of view during consultation and treatment, charges low fees, has a good reputation among patients and has a certain patient base.
