Understanding the 5 major symptoms of frozen shoulder

Frozen shoulder, known as periarthritis, is a common condition characterized by shoulder joint pain and limited mobility. The disease is more common in women than in men and is more common in manual laborers. If not treated effectively, it may seriously affect the functional activities of the shoulder joint. 1. Shoulder pain Initially, the shoulder pain is paroxysmal, most of them are chronic, and later the pain gradually increases, or dull pain or knife-like pain, and is persistent. After climate change or exertion, the pain often worsens, and it can spread to the neck and upper limbs (especially the elbow). When the shoulder is bumped or pulled by chance, it can often cause severe tearing pain. Most patients often complain that they wake up with pain in the latter half of the night and cannot sleep, especially when lying on the affected side. If the pain is caused by cold, the patient is especially sensitive to climate change. 2. Restricted shoulder joint movement The shoulder joint movement can be restricted in all directions, especially abduction, supination and internal and external rotation. As the disease develops, adhesions of the joint capsule and soft tissues around the shoulder are caused by long-term disuse; muscle strength gradually decreases, especially when combing hair, dressing, washing face, forking the waist, etc. In severe cases, the function of the elbow joint may also be affected, and the hand cannot touch the ipsilateral shoulder when flexing the elbow, especially when the arm is extended backwards. 3. Fear of cold The affected shoulder is afraid of cold, and many patients use cotton pads to wrap their shoulder all year round; even in the summer, the shoulder does not dare to blow in the wind. 4.Pressure pain Most patients can feel obvious pressure points around the shoulder joint, mostly in the biceps longus tendon groove, subacromial bursa, rostral process, supraspinatus muscle attachment point, etc. 5. Muscle spasm and atrophy The deltoid, supraspinatus and other muscles around the shoulder may appear spastic in the early stage, and disuse muscle atrophy may occur in the late stage.
