What are the precautions during chemotherapy

In the eyes of the general public, there are still many misconceptions about malignant tumors and their treatment, not only are they afraid of cancer, but they are also full of fear of chemotherapy. In fact, for most tumor patients, chemotherapy is an indispensable tool in the process of cure. 1. Gastrointestinal reaction Most antitumor drugs damage the mucous membrane epithelium of gastrointestinal tract, so patients often have loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting after chemotherapy. The time of reaction is related to the patient’s physical condition and the chemical drugs used. Some drugs have nausea and vomiting as soon as they are used, while others start to react a few days after use and gradually worsen, but can disappear after stopping the drug. You should eat light, easy to digest and nutritious food, vomiting can be serious, eat more meals, more liquid food, semi-liquid food, reduce the time food stays in the stomach, increase absorption. Vomit should be dumped in time to avoid stimulating aggravation of vomiting. Rinse your mouth before and after meals and after vomiting. Observe the number and nature of stools, and pay attention to the presence of oral ulcers to detect discomfort early and notify medical personnel in a timely manner. This toxic reaction has been controlled by special drugs, so the current incidence is very low, and, although some patients can still appear, but within a few days after the end of chemotherapy can be self-relieved, do not need to worry. 2, hair loss Because the epithelium of the hair follicle grows fast and is sensitive to chemical drugs, so some drugs after chemotherapy hair loss is obvious, affecting the appearance can wear a hat, or wear a wig to reduce the adverse effects on the body and mind. However, besides being unsightly, as far as chemotherapy toxicity is concerned, this is the chemotherapy toxicity that doctors care least about, as its effects on the patient’s body are almost negligible. Moreover, there are many chemotherapy drugs that do not cause hair loss. 3. Invisible side effects Most anti-cancer drugs are metabolized in liver and kidneys, and their metabolites are poorly soluble and easy to damage kidneys. Usually, drink more water and require urine volume to be at least 2,000 ml per day, and rehydrate when necessary to dilute urine and avoid high concentration of drugs in urine to reduce kidney damage. The protection of the liver is mainly done by our specialist physicians, so patients must follow medical advice. 4.Bone marrow suppression Chemotherapy has a certain effect and toxicity on normal cells in the body while killing, inhibiting and destroying tumor cells, mainly manifesting leukocyte and platelet reduction. A certain range of leukocyte and platelet reduction has almost no effect on our patients’ friends, and patients are discharged from the hospital under the guidance of specialist physicians to standardize the review of blood routine, contact physicians in time, and avoid public places with dirty air. Severe bone marrow transplantation can endanger patients’ life safety, which is the most important toxic reaction for oncologists and needs to be handled under the guidance of physicians! 5.Other toxicity Chemotherapy drugs are different according to the drugs, some of them have special toxic reactions, it is impossible to enumerate them all. In short, as long as you follow the doctor’s advice during chemotherapy, you can generally avoid and minimize the toxicity. Therefore, a good attitude, follow the doctor’s advice, chemotherapy is relatively safe.
