If a lump is palpated between the ages of 15 and 30, with good mobility, clear borders and smooth surface, it is considered a benign lump, while a cyst is considered more likely if there is tenderness. Age 35 years or older palpated lumps with poor activity, unclear borders and uneven surface are considered malignant possible.
