How long does a tetanus shot last?

Usually the duration of action of tetanus antitoxin lasts up to 10 days, tetanus immunoglobulin lasts 3-4 weeks, and the immune effect formed by tetanus toxoid lasts up to 5-10 years. Tetanus is caused by Clostridium tetani infection, and the prodromal phase shows symptoms such as headache, dizziness, general weakness, and weakness in chewing, and then the sequence of gradually increasing symptoms of paroxysmal muscle spasms. Active immunity that can be obtained if tetanus toxoid is administered to newborns after birth can generally last 5-10 years, after which supplemental injections are required to maintain the effects of active immunity. In case of more severe trauma, tetanus antitoxin or tetanus immunoglobulin can be administered, which can last for 10 days and 3-4 weeks, respectively.
