Purpura is one of the manifestations of leukaemia, but purpura alone is not a definitive diagnosis of leukaemia because at the same time, many factors can also cause purpura.
The presence of purpura in leukaemia is associated with the proliferation and accumulation of large numbers of clonal leukaemia cells in the bone marrow, inhibition of normal haematopoietic function and reduced platelet production. In addition, purpura can occur in many blood disorders such as immune thrombocytopenic purpura, simple purpura and allergic purpura.
