Menstrual changes are a common side effect of IUD placement, such as prolonged periods, increased menstrual flow, spotting and bleeding between periods, etc. They usually recover gradually after 3-6 months and do not require treatment. The levonorgestrel-containing IUD (Mannorrhea) can cause low menstrual flow or amenorrhea due to the slow local release of levonorgestrel in the uterus.
If you experience low menstrual flow after IUD insertion, you should go to the hospital promptly so that your doctor can rule out any abnormalities based on the test results and then follow up or treat accordingly. A small number of women who experience increased leucorrhoea and lower abdominal distension after IUD placement should also consult their doctor and be treated accordingly after a clear diagnosis.
