After the ureteral stent tube is placed, hematuria may occur for about 3-5 days. However, there are a few patients who have intermittent hematuria throughout the duration of the ureteral stent tube and require early removal of the ureteral stent tube in order to relieve the hematuria. Patients do not have hematuria while lying down, but they may have hematuria after moving or walking, so the duration of hematuria varies from person to person. In principle, early removal of the ureteral stent is the most important way to prevent bleeding, but it depends on the patient’s condition. The shortest duration of ureteral stenting is 2 weeks and the longest duration is more than 3 months, so it is important to remove the stenting tube as soon as possible to prevent recurrent hematuria according to the recovery of the patient. During the period of stenting, it is easy to have urine reflux from the bladder to the kidneys, and it is easier to have back pain and pelvic infections, which can also cause increased hematuria.
