(1) Vessel for decoction: preferably a casserole, also available in enamel pots. These vessels are not easy to chemically react with the drug. Forbid the use of iron, aluminum and copper decoction. Because when boiling the medicine, the medicine and metal will chemically react, thus changing the medicinal properties and reducing the effectiveness of the medicine. (2) Decoction before soaking in water: before decoction, soak the drug in cold water for half an hour, adding the amount of water to two fingers above the surface of the drug after the herb is soaked, so that the water is fully immersed in the herb tissue to facilitate the decoction of active ingredients. If the herbs have more flavor, larger volume, stronger water absorption and longer decoction time, add more water, otherwise add less water; add more water for the first decoction, and reduce it for the second decoction; most of the herbs contain protein, so do not soak in hot water, otherwise the protein on the surface of the drug will solidify immediately and affect the precipitation of the active ingredients. (3) Decoction of Chinese medicine fire: decoction starts with a large fire, after boiling, change to a small fire. The decoction container should be covered, and attention should be paid to constant stirring to prevent the drug from wrapping the pot and overflowing. (4) Decoction time and frequency: three times is appropriate. Each medicine is generally decocted three times, and the decoction time varies according to the prescription. For tonic medicine, the first decoction should be boiled and then boiled for about 30 minutes, and the second decoction should be shorter than the first decoction. The amount of decoction should be 100-200ml of decoction after each decoction (children reduce the amount of decoction). The amount of decoction should be more if there is a lot of medicine, and less if there is less medicine. Note that after the third decoction, the dregs should be squeezed to avoid loss of decoction. The three decoctions should be combined and mixed and then served in two portions. (5) First decoction: first decoct with water for 20 minutes, then add the group of drugs and decoct together; after decoction: put the group of drugs into the pot 10 minutes before the decoction is ready, and decoct for 10 minutes together; package decoction: wrap with clean gauze and decoct with the group of drugs; molten drug: after the group of drugs is decocted, put the molten drug into a bowl and stir it with hot juice. (6) Decocted Chinese medicine cannot be drunk: after decocted Chinese medicine, you cannot add water and take it again. Because after decoction, the chemical composition of the drug will change, not only will it not work as it should, but it may cause the opposite effect.
