Do I need surgery for a lumbar compression fracture?

If the compression fracture does not exceed 1/4, that is, the degree of compression of the anterior edge of the vertebral body is less than 1/4, conservative treatment can be considered, that is, lying in a flat position, wearing a brace, and then supplemented by drug therapy. If the degree of compression fracture is more than 1/4 or even more than 1/2, it is best to use surgical treatment, and the surgical approach is different for compression fractures in the elderly and compression fractures in the young. Compression fractures in the elderly are currently treated with percutaneous translaminar vertebroplasty, which is a better method; for young people, they need to be treated with incisional internal fixation.
