Heatstroke can be categorized into: heatstroke yang, heatstroke yin, and heatstroke desiccation. Different acupoints are used for different types of heatstroke. 1. Heatstroke yang syndrome: the manifestation of heat in the qi division is the main concern. Symptoms include fever, sweating, irritability, thirst, excessive drinking, ulceration and redness, or with coldness (fear of cold), red tongue with little fluid, and a large pulse. Treatment should be directed at clearing summer heat. Choose Da Shi, Qu Chi, He Gu, Nei Guan, and Fu San Li points. 2. Heatstroke Yin syndrome: the deficiency of both qi and yin is the main cause and the deficiency of qi is the most prominent one. Symptoms include heat and sweating, mental exhaustion, drowsiness of limbs, chest fullness (chest distension), shortness of breath, lack of appetite, loose stools and slow pulse. Treatment is based on tonifying Qi, supplemented by tonifying the Kidneys to generate fluid. Select Qihai, Guanyuan, Kidney Yu, Foot Sanli and other acupoints. 3. Heatstroke with desiccation: body heat and sweating, followed by syncope of the limbs (unconsciousness, accompanied by cold limbs, even to the elbows and above the knees), cold sweating, pallor, agitation, gradually shallow breathing, or even coma, unconsciousness, and a fine pulse. The treatment should be to restore Yang and fix prolapse (treating prolapse-type diseases by greatly tonifying Yang Qi). Select Qihai, Guanyuan and Shenque acupoints. If heatstroke occurs, it is recommended to go to the hospital in a timely manner, do not blindly acupuncture or medication on your own, so as not to delay the condition.
