The diagnosis is usually confirmed by a thorough physical examination by a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. Auxiliary examination is preferred at different times of the child’s life, and X-ray of both hips is the simplest and most effective examination method. For small children before 6 months of age, if there is a high suspicion of hip dislocation after clinical examination, ultrasound examination can be performed first, but of course, an experienced doctor is needed to perform the ultrasound examination. If the diagnosis is not confirmed by one ultrasound examination, the diagnosis may be confirmed by another examination 2-3 weeks later. After 6 months of age, since the nucleus of ossification has already appeared, an orthogonal X-ray examination of both hips can be performed to clearly diagnose the degree and type of dislocation. If necessary, CT examination is also available to get a more objective picture of the hip development. Patients who have already done ultrasound examination or taken films can upload them to the Internet and consult with me. Parents of patients who need in-depth communication can choose to consult with me by phone or telephone for one-on-one communication, and I will try to talk to you on the same day to answer your questions.
