How long does the effect of cephalosporin last?

How long the effect of cephalosporin lasts depends on the specific type and cannot be generalized. Cephalosporins have a broad antibacterial spectrum and have good antibacterial effects on Gram-positive and negative bacteria, and can be distributed to all parts of the body after application. Cephalosporins have a slow onset of action of about one hour after oral and intramuscular injection, and are suitable for patients with mild to moderate infections; intravenous infusion has a faster onset of action and stronger anti-infective effect, and is suitable for more serious infections or systemic infections. The duration of effect varies with different types of cephalosporins. Cefonicid, cefazolin and ceftazidime generally last for 12 hours, while ceftriaxone can last up to 24 hours. In addition, patients should pay attention to the fact that alcohol must not be consumed when taking medication, which is not conducive to recovery from the disease, and strict abstinence from alcohol is required during the illness. It should also be noted that cephalosporins should not be used frequently for a long time.
