There are two treatment options for femoral stem fractures: the first is surgical treatment and the second is conservative treatment. If the fracture is well aligned, the fracture is relatively stable, or the patient is too old to tolerate surgery, it can only be treated conservatively by doing bone traction on the distal femur or continuous skin traction on the lower extremity, and the traction can be removed after 6-8 weeks of initial fixation and stability. If the fracture is relatively unstable and the fracture is significantly displaced, surgery is required. There are relatively more surgical treatment options for femoral stem fractures, including intramedullary nail fixation and femoral plate fixation, depending on the fracture line and the displacement of the fracture.
