How to reduce the swelling of the ankle quickly

Swelling of the ankle is common in ankle fractures. To reduce the swelling quickly, the affected part should be braked promptly just after the injury to avoid further aggravation of the ankle swelling due to activity. Within 48h after the injury, it can be controlled by applying cold compresses. After 48h, the swelling can be reduced by applying heat, physical therapy, medication and elevating the affected limb: 1. Ice: It can be applied within 48h of the injury occurring, but is not recommended if it is beyond this range. An ice pack or an ice towel can be placed on the ankle to promote local vasoconstriction and control the spread of inflammation. Ice can also reduce the sensitivity of the nerve endings and play a certain role in reducing swelling and pain. 2. Hot compresses and physical therapy: both are recommended to be used after 48h of injury. Physiotherapy generally uses microwave and infrared rays to promote blood circulation, which can help eliminate the swelling in the ankle. You can also use topical pain-relieving herbal ointment, such as blood circulation and pain relief ointment, wound and dampness pain relief ointment, etc.; 4. Elevate the affected limb: If the swelling is more serious, you can try to elevate the ankle, which can promote the venous return and help reduce the swelling. If the swelling of the ankle is caused by disease factors, you can also generally promote the elimination of swelling through hot compresses, physical therapy and medication, but the most important thing is to provide timely treatment for the original disease.
