Heartburn does not cause fever. Heartburn is a clinical symptom like fever, and only diseases may cause fever, such as inflammatory diseases of the stomach, like the more common acute gastritis or acute gastrointestinal, which may cause fever. The more common chronic gastritis, gastroesophageal reflux disease or gastric ulcer basically do not cause symptoms of fever, but heartburn is more common. Heartburn is most often seen in GERD and is a very typical clinical symptom of the disease. Patients who clearly have GERD need to cooperate with a specialist to give regular anti-reflux treatment. In the case of unexplained fever, attention needs to be paid to finding the cause and, if necessary, a hospital visit is required.
