Combined with the complications and hazards brought about by cirrhosis disease, patients with cirrhosis are especially briefly recommended to take note of during their lives and visits to the clinic: Regarding diet: a relatively light diet, it is especially important to avoid spicy and hard foods. Avoid bleeding from ruptured esophagogastric fundic varices. Dried fruits, even if they are chewed carefully, are hard foods. While maintaining the usual stool, one egg and a moderate amount of meat, mainly lean meat, can be consumed daily for protein. If you do not have diabetes, you can consume fresh fruits. Regarding bowel movements: it is important to keep the bowels open, preferably once a day, at least not less than once every three days. This is because poor bowel movements are very likely to lead to the production and absorption of food endoamines, which can induce senile encephalopathy-hepatic coma. About diuresis: In the absence of ascites or bilateral lower limb edema, do not take oral diuretics at will. Some patients take diuretics at will for a long time by themselves because they are afraid of ascites, which is a great mistake. About hepatoprotective therapy: insist on taking oral hepatoprotective drugs to reduce further damage to your residual liver cells by the virus, and consult your internist about what kind of hepatoprotective therapy drugs to take. About antiviral therapy: According to the quantification of virus in your body, consult your internal medicine doctor if you need to apply antiviral therapy to lower the amount of virus in your body and reduce the further damage of virus to your liver cells, however, please do not treat yourself. About hypersplenism: Have regular blood tests to find out if your spleen is severely hyperactive, if you are in severe bleeding tendency and clotting disorder, and if you have frequent gum bleeding and subcutaneous petechiae, consult your surgeon if you need surgical removal of the spleen. About ruptured esophagogastric fundic varices bleeding: You should have a gastroscopy to find out your esophagogastric fundic varices, if it is to the extent that the fundic varices are severe, this means that you are in the threat of ruptured esophagogastric fundic varices bleeding at any time, please consult your surgeon if you need surgery. Regarding primary liver cancer: It is strongly recommended to have imaging examinations (ultrasound, CT, MRI are available) twice a year to understand whether your cirrhosis has worsened on one hand, and most importantly, to check whether it has developed into early stage liver cancer. Liver cancer is a treatable disease, however, it must be detected early for early diagnosis and early treatment. Once early liver cancer is detected, consult a surgeon immediately. Don’t take a detour and find a surgeon only at an advanced stage, by that time, there is nothing the surgeon can do!
