Breast cancer has become the number one cancer among women in Guangzhou, with 50 out of every 100,000 women suffering from this cancer. This cancer is prone to recurrence and metastasis if post-surgical management is neglected, and research has found that the most preferred place for the cancer to go after recurrence is the bones. The increasing age of marriage and childbirth, the high pace of urban life, and unhealthy eating and living habits have increased the incidence of breast cancer. Xu Bo, director of breast surgery at Guangzhou First People’s Hospital, said that many breast cancer patients in China’s urban population are now able to be detected early and receive early surgery. However, the treatment of breast cancer is not the end of the story after surgical removal. Because of the lack of knowledge about the disease, many patients can seek medical treatment “early”, but it is difficult to seek medical treatment “consistently”. The most common adverse event encountered after breast cancer surgery is tumor recurrence and metastasis. However, even in the case of recurrence and metastasis, the treatment and survival of breast cancer are better than many other tumors. Therefore, it is important to seek timely medical attention and treatment at this time. According to Bo Xu, long-term research in the medical field has found that the most common recurrent metastasis of breast cancer is bone metastasis, which accounts for 47%- 85% of all distant metastases. If you have persistent bone pain (back pain, limb pain, joint pain), spontaneous fracture or hypercalcemia after breast cancer surgery, it is very likely that you have bone metastasis. Bone scan can detect “budding” bone metastases, so as to facilitate early treatment, obtain better treatment and prolong survival. Therefore, for patients after breast cancer surgery, it is recommended to have a bone scan every 6-12 months in addition to the regular blood sampling, chest X-ray, ultrasound and other review items.
