With the development of the aging population, the number of elderly people suffering from fall and fracture is gradually increasing. Recently, 85-year-old Master Wang slipped and fell and injured his right hip when he was out in the morning. At that time, his family felt that the fall was not serious and did not pay attention to it. Two days later, he came to the hospital for examination and was found to have a right femoral intertrochanteric fracture (hip), and was admitted to the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics of the Second Hospital of Dahmer. The surgery was performed. The operation was successfully completed through full cooperation with the anesthesiology department, and Master Wang was discharged from the hospital one week later. Hip fractures in the elderly are common, and people usually think that the elderly have more underlying diseases and cannot tolerate surgery, so they usually choose conservative treatment, however, the mortality rate of patients with traditional conservative treatment is about 34.6%, mostly due to complications caused by bed rest, and surgery is preferred for these fractures abroad. We use closed reduction intramedullary nail internal fixation, in which three small incisions of 1-3 cm are made in the hip and the main nail, spiral blade and locking nail are inserted, the operation takes about 30 minutes with less bleeding. The patient was able to walk with the assistance of a walker a week later. This greatly reduced bed-ridden complications and significantly improved the patient’s quality of life. The success of the surgery in Wang’s case reveals to us that hip fracture in the elderly is not a forbidden area for surgery, and due to the advancement of minimally invasive and anesthesia techniques, we should not easily give up the opportunity of surgery for the elderly.
