Malignant tumor (cancer) has always been one of the three major diseases threatening human life. In recent years, the incidence of tumor is on the rise, especially posing a greater threat to the health of middle-aged and elderly people, and its mortality rate has been the highest among various diseases. There are certain rules for the formation and development of each kind of cancer. Although the main treatment methods for tumors are diversified, including surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, biological immunotherapy and traditional Chinese medicine, etc., in many cases, a single treatment method cannot meet the treatment needs of cancer due to its complex etiology. Since half a century, tumor treatment has entered the era of multidisciplinary comprehensive treatment, which is based on the patient’s body condition, pathological type, invasion range (disease stage) and development direction, comprehensive dialectical analysis, systematic evaluation, planned and rational application of existing treatment tools, and determination of the most appropriate standardized comprehensive treatment plan for each tumor patient, and integrated Chinese and Western medicine treatment. It attaches importance to both aspects of the patient’s body and the disease, does not exclude any effective methods, and embodies multidisciplinary collaboration and complementarity. As a new concept of scientific treatment of tumor that has been promoted internationally, integrated tumor treatment has become the main way to improve the efficacy of tumor; if various means of treating tumor can complement each other and be used rationally, it is bound to significantly increase the recovery rate of tumor and improve the quality of life of patients. Moreover, this comprehensive treatment plan can be reevaluated and revised accordingly with the development of medical science and the emergence of new treatment methods, so as to be suitable for each tumor patient.
