Chronic pharyngitis is a diffuse inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa, submucosa and lymphatic tissue, often as part of a chronic inflammation of the upper respiratory tract, mostly in adults. The duration of the disease is long, the symptoms are stubborn and more difficult to cure. 1, chronic simple pharyngitis: pharyngeal mucosa congestion, submucosal connective tissue and lymphoid tissue hyperplasia, thickening of the squamous epithelial layer, increased small blood vessels in the subepithelial layer, surrounded by lymphocyte infiltration, mucus gland hypertrophy, hypersecretion. 2, chronic hypertrophic pharyngitis: mucosal congestion and thickening, extensive submucosal connective tissue and lymphoid tissue hyperplasia, lymphoid tissue hyperplasia around the mucus glands, the formation of the posterior pharyngeal wall most granular bulge. Common pharyngeal lateral cord lymphatic tissue hyperplasia hypertrophy, striped. 3, atrophic pharyngitis and dry pharyngitis: patients are often accompanied by atrophic rhinitis. The main pathological changes are reduced glandular secretion, mucosal atrophy and thinning. Clinical manifestations: generally no obvious systemic symptoms. The pharynx has such sensations as foreign body sensation, itching, burning, dryness or slight pain. There is often a sticky secretion adhering to the posterior pharyngeal wall, causing the patient to have a frequent irritating cough with nausea upon rising in the morning. No sputum or only granular couscous-like secretions are coughed up, and patients with atrophic pharyngitis can sometimes cough up foul-smelling scabs. Prognosis: Chronic pharyngitis has a long course, is difficult to cure, and often has a foreign body sensation, causing patients to panic and repeatedly seek medical attention. The prognosis has no obvious adverse consequences and the possibility of developing malignant lesions is unlikely. If the patient is really concerned, regular checkups (3-6 months, laryngoscopy) are available.
