  Preoperative care for children with cleft lip and palate is very important to reduce the occurrence of complications such as pneumonia and rapid weight gain. Good preoperative care can create good conditions for surgery and directly affect the surgical outcome.  I. Feeding Children with cleft lip and palate, especially those with cleft palate, have difficulty sucking and increased physical exertion due to anatomical defects and lack of negative oral pressure, therefore, the principle of small amount and multiple times should be adopted when feeding, shorten the feeding interval and reduce the feeding time, in addition, attention should be paid to keep the infant’s body position slightly tilted when feeding and avoid lying down as much as possible to reduce the chance of milk choking into the trachea. Therefore, children with cleft lip and palate should sleep on their sides as much as possible before surgery.
