Zheng Baosen, Department of Pain, Tianjin First Central Hospital For many years, some painful diseases, including: trigeminal neuralgia, lumbar and leg pain, cervical spondylosis, postherpetic neuralgia, perineal neuralgia, abdominal neuralgia, post-surgical pain, and a variety of cancerous pain, etc., and often many patients will be unable to find specialists and go through a lot of trouble. Since 2008, when the Ministry of Health issued a document on the establishment of pain departments in hospitals above the second level, pain specialist clinics or standardized pain treatment institutions have been established all over the country in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Health in order to meet the treatment needs of pain patients. Zheng Baoshen, pain department of Tianjin First Central Hospital, traced the development of modern pain medicine, is derived from the Second World War, the United States famous doctor, the University of Washington Department of Anesthesiology Professor BONICA, began to devote himself to the treatment of World War II pain casualties, the statistics of his treatment of up to 10,000 cases of patients. In the past 10 years, domestic and foreign large-scale hospitals have established pain medicine specialties, some seemingly intractable pain diseases, through a new – multi-modal treatment method, has made most of the patients with painful diseases to achieve satisfactory treatment results. It is especially important to mention here that a minimally invasive interventional technique for the treatment of painful diseases is being widely used both at home and abroad. It is especially advantageous in terms of safety and efficacy for the treatment of some painful disorders. For example, the minimally invasive interventional technology for trigeminal neuralgia, cervical spondylosis, postherpetic neuralgia, lumbar disc herniation, and cancer pain appears to be maturing after more than 10 years of clinical and experimental research and verification. Thus, it has created a great situation for pain medicine in China in the past 10 or so years from scratch, from weak to strong. Just as Han Jisheng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, introduced, “Whether in the establishment of the pain discipline, or in the diagnosis and treatment technology, we have been in the world’s first-class level.” In order to relieve the disease of many pain patients, China’s pain doctors not only seriously study the advanced technology of foreign countries, but also for the future of China’s pain career to train a number of senior professionals. One batch of young pain doctors after another, not only proficient in specialized technology, but also familiar with the progress of pain medicine abroad. They are not only able to undertake clinical work in pain medicine, but also teaching and research work. Although pain medicine is an emerging medical science, in the future, their pain medicine talents will surely carry forward in the field of pain medicine in China, and will show a strong vitality at home and abroad.
