The best time to take azithromycin medicine once a day

When patients take azithromycin, it is recommended to take it about 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals every day. Azithromycin is a macrolide broad-spectrum antibiotic, which is mainly used in clinical practice for the treatment of upper respiratory tract infections, pneumonia caused by sensitive bacteria, oropharyngeal and middle ear infections and other diseases. However, azithromycin may produce certain adverse reactions, the most common being irritation of the gastrointestinal tract, such as nausea, vomiting and stomach pain after taking the drug. In addition, taking azithromycin immediately after eating can affect the absorption and utilization of the drug. Therefore, patients are advised to take azithromycin 1 hour before or about 2 hours after meal, and pay attention not to drink alcohol as well as eat spicy, greasy and irritating food, so as not to increase or aggravate the adverse reaction of gastrointestinal tract. Azithromycin must be used under the guidance of a doctor. If antacids for gastrointestinal diseases are also taken during the dosing period, azithromycin should be used 1 hour before or 2 hours after the antacids are taken, because antacids will reduce the highest blood concentration of azithromycin and affect the absorption and efficacy of the drug.
