Rheumatoid arthritis is disabling and appropriate rehabilitation exercises should be performed

Background of the disease With the development of the times and society, medical innovation, human life expectancy is gradually increasing. At the same time, people’s demand for quality of life and good living conditions is increasing. The long journey of life is not to be subjected to the physical and mental torment of disease. However there is indeed a disease, rheumatoid arthritis (Rheumatoid Arthritis, RA for short), which, once suffered, can destroy the bone structure of the joints. Currently, the prevalence of rheumatoid arthritis in China is about 0.34%, with the total number of people affected exceeding 5 million. Because the onset of the disease is in the joints, and the joints govern daily life, the long-term disease can lead to disability. Professor Huang Qingchun said: Based on the conventional drug treatment, coupled with appropriate rehabilitation exercises, will better improve the self-care and exercise ability. So what exercises can be carried out for patients with rheumatoid arthritis? Exercises for rheumatoid arthritis patients can be divided into exercises for joints, muscles and endurance. Exercises for joints are mainly to relieve morning stiffness, reduce pain, maintain joint flexibility and improve joint function. This includes joint rotation, flexion, extension and stretching. However, in the process of exercises, do not overly pursue the maximum degree of joint mobility, but to be comfortable, and the movement should be slow, and avoid sudden force. Take the wrist joint as an example, first put your hands flat, take the wrist joint as the fulcrum, gradually lift the palm upward, the posture is similar to greeting others, try to achieve the maximum swing; after holding for 6 seconds, relax your hands and slowly return to the starting posture; next, take the wrist joint as the fulcrum, gradually lower the palm and lower the wrist joint plane, so that the forearm has the feeling of pulling forward; after holding for 6 seconds, relax your hands and slowly return to the The starting posture. It can enhance muscle strength and reduce muscle fatigue. For patients who are bedridden for a long time or lack of exercise due to pain, it can reduce the occurrence of myasthenia gravis. Muscle strengthening exercises that do not involve joint movement are recommended. For example, straighten the arm, clench the fist, and use the force on the upper arm to maximize muscle tension. Endurance exercises, mainly referring to aerobic exercises, include walking, jogging, swimming, Badaanjin, Taijiquan, etc. While increasing joint mobility and muscle strength, aerobic exercise can also regulate emotions, improve physical fitness, and enjoy the mood. In different stages of the disease, how to allocate different exercises? 1.Severe joint inflammation When joint swelling, pain is obvious, morning stiffness is long, accompanied by fatigue or muscle discomfort, suggesting that joint inflammation is more serious. At this time, exercise should not be too much, you can carry out joint activities, each joint repeat the same action 5 times, 1-2 times a day, can be combined with the resting state of muscle contraction, relaxation exercises, each time hard tense muscle, adhere to 6 seconds, 1-2 times a day. 2, joint inflammation is light When the joint pain is not obvious, only discomfort when the joint force, morning stiffness time is reduced, suggesting that the inflammatory activity is reduced, then you can gradually increase the amount of exercise. Joint activity can be repeated 3-5 times a day to achieve the maximum joint activity, within the tolerable range, you can increase the appropriate joint extension exercises. At the same time, muscle contraction exercises against external forces can be increased, each time using 50%-80% of the maximum muscle strength to exercise, each time lasting 6 seconds. If conditions allow, you can try endurance exercise, swimming, tai chi, etc. are good choices. 3, the condition is still well controlled For patients with stable or inactive condition, no obvious symptoms of joint swelling and pain, this period should gradually increase endurance exercises, such as swimming, yoga, walking, jogging, taijiquan, eight-danjin and other aerobic exercises, can help increase endurance and physical fitness. Proper and reasonable exercise in the early stage can maintain the functional position and proper mobility of joints, prevent joint deformity, enhance muscle strength, prevent disuse muscle atrophy, and improve self-care and social work ability. However, each patient with rheumatoid arthritis still needs to seek the advice of a physician before exercising and choose an exercise program suitable for him or her under the guidance of a physician.
