Do myopic patients still experience retinal degeneration after excimer laser surgery?

The greater risk of retinal fissures and detachment in myopic patients is mainly due to their longer eye axis and relatively weaker retina, and is not significantly related to surgery. Although the patient does not need to wear glasses after excimer laser surgery, the condition of the retina under the eye does not improve as a result of the surgery. Therefore, postoperative myopic patients may still develop retinal pathology. Therefore, it is recommended that postoperative patients have regular fundus examinations in order to receive early preventive treatment.
