Retinal degeneration and fissures – blindness is not an option

Are your eyes really healthy? Without a thorough eye examination by an ophthalmologist, you should not be too confident that your eyes are healthy! A. The following “lucky” thing often happens to physicians who sit in the Excimer Laser Center: a boy comes to the Excimer Center with a lot of money in his pocket and asks for a femtosecond excimer laser for myopia. After a detailed examination, the ophthalmologist told him the bad news: he could not do excimer surgery; he also told him the good news: the retina had degeneration or a fissure, which was fortunately found in time today, otherwise it would have led to retinal detachment, and now he needs to do retinal photocoagulation to prevent retinal detachment. Second, to answer the question of whether your eyes are healthy, you must go to a larger hospital and get a detailed examination by an eye specialist. Only then can you say, “My eyes are healthy now!” The ophthalmologist should at least check your visual acuity, eye pressure, and dilated pupil to check your fundus before he can tell you “whether your eyes are safe”. How can retinal degeneration and fissures blind you? The retina is the tissue that senses light. A healthy retina is intact and fluid from the vitreous cavity of the eye cannot enter under the retina. However, if the retina has a fissure, the fluid in the vitreous cavity of the eye can enter the subretina through the fissure, which can cause retinal detachment. Therefore, prevention should be the main focus. When there is retinal degeneration, we should check the fundus closely, and once there is a risk of retinal fissure or retinal degeneration causing retinal detachment, we should do photocoagulation closure of retinal degeneration area or retinal fissure as soon as possible. Fourth, the symptoms of retinal degeneration and fissure: the appearance of flying mosquitoes, flashing light. Usually painless, so that retinal degeneration and fissure is an invisible killer, blind you non-negotiable!
