Acne, commonly known as pimples, is also called acne, pimples, or some are called youthful beautiful pimples. It is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that involves hair follicles and sebaceous glands, and is most common on seborrheic areas, such as the forehead, cheeks, and chest and back. It can manifest as acne, papules, pustules, nodules, cysts and scarring. The causes are complex and are mainly related to androgens, increased secretion of sebaceous glands, abnormal keratinization of sebaceous ducts in hair follicles, proliferation of Propionibacterium acnes and genetics. Acne, although commonly known as acne vulgaris, or youthful beautiful pimples. But it doesn’t just belong to teenagers; about 90% of teenagers and 25% of adults are subject to acne. It is one of the more common skin problems. About 98% of people will have acne in their lifetime. Acne is most common in adolescents, hence the name acne. As people age, most of them heal on their own after the age of about 30`35. However, acne is by no means exclusive to young people, and more and more adults are not free of acne even after puberty, even until they are 60 years old. Some people do not have acne when they are young, but break out in their 30’s, 40’s, or even menopause. This is because any change in hormone levels in the body can cause acne to occur. And hormones are just a trigger for acne, not a necessary factor. Stress and late nights can trigger acne. Dermatologists refer to acne that has not cleared up after the age of 20 as persistent acne. This type of acne is more common in women and occurs on the lower part of the face, such as the perioral area and jaw. It often forms deeper scarring, inflammatory papules, and nodules.
