On February 1, the Institute of Liver Diseases of Shenzhen Third People’s Hospital found that certain patients with new coronavirus pneumonia tested positive for 2019-nCoV nucleic acid in their stools. The main route of transmission of novel coronavirus is still through respiratory droplet transmission and contact transmission. The so-called fecal-oral transmission means that if the patient’s feces contaminates food and water, he or she becomes infected by entering the human digestive tract, and the disease enters through the mouth, which is the common term for what we often call fecal-oral transmission. Feng Lu Recalled, a researcher at the Infectious Disease Division of the CDC, said that this phenomenon indicates that the new coronavirus may exist in the digestive tract, but further investigation is needed to confirm whether it is transmitted through the fecal mouth.
