After aortic coarctation surgery, you will be awake when the anesthesia wears off, usually around 0.5 to 1 hour, but it may be longer. Aortic coarctation surgery usually requires tracheal intubation and intravenous combined anesthesia. If the surgery is successful and the postoperative status is stable, the patient will be awake in about one hour. However, if the condition of aortic coarctation is more serious, especially acute type A coarctation, which requires extracorporeal circulation and hypothermia, the patient will need to enter the ICU for close observation. If the postoperative condition is poor and accompanied by respiratory failure, the patient will need to be placed on a ventilator for continuous treatment, and he/she will not wake up until 3-5 days after the operation, or even longer. Aortic coarctation surgery is high risk and vital signs must be closely monitored after surgery. If there is a delay in awakening after surgery, further diagnosis and treatment should be made. Consult your physician for details and follow your doctor’s instructions.
