Current materials and options for ear reconstruction

Autologous rib cartilage and Medpor are the two main types of materials: 1. Autologous rib cartilage Autologous rib cartilage is still the preferred clinical material for ear scaffolds due to its advantages of easy extraction, easy sculpting, no rejection, good long-term stability of the reconstructed auricle, and continued growth. Generally, rib cartilage can be used as a scaffold for women up to the age of 23 and for men up to the age of 25. Of course, if the age exceeds this limit, a CT examination of the rib cartilage is needed to determine the cartilage calcification in advance, and if the uncalcified cartilage is sufficient for stenting, it can be used; if the calcification is severe and cannot be used, the manufactured material has to be chosen; 2. However, once the stent is exposed or infected, it will be very difficult to deal with, and even need to be removed for the wound to heal. Therefore, at present it is only an alternative material for people whose autologous cartilage has calcified and cannot be used.
