Can people with high blood pressure drink alcohol?

Patients with hypertension are not recommended to drink alcohol for the following reasons: 1. Because drinking alcohol may excite the patient’s brain center, causing a faster heartbeat and increased cardiac output, which accelerates the patient’s blood circulation and causes a sudden rise in blood pressure in hypertensive patients, making blood pressure fluctuate too much and causing hypertensive emergencies, such as acute cerebral infarction, acute cerebral hemorrhage, and acute myocardial infarction. 2. The use of alcohol may cause the patient’s blood sugar to rise, accelerating the onset of atherosclerosis in hypertensive patients and making them more prone to complications of hypertension. 3. Patients with hypertension are advised to quit smoking and drinking, monitor blood pressure, adjust their mindset, relax, and eat lightly.
