When is the plate removed after osteotomy? Will the deformity recur?

In older patients, the plate can be removed after osteotomy. In younger patients or those with symptoms of plate irritation, the plate can be removed, usually after two years of surgery, depending on the patient’s needs, and it is not difficult to remove the longer it takes. If the plate is completely healed, the bone itself can provide full support and the plate will be useless and the deformity will not recur after removal. It is usually possible to walk with weight immediately after removal of the plate and return to full normal life after the skin wound has healed and the stitches have been removed.
