The treatment of floating thumb remains a clinical challenge. Personally, I prefer index thumbing. After all my observations over the years, it has obvious advantages over other methods, both in terms of appearance and function. Many parents of patients are still not comfortable with index thumbing, especially for postoperative function and appearance. I just recently did another case with a good post-operative result, although a bit older. I generally recommend doing it at one year of age.
