Since numerous families of babies with perianal abscesses have come to consult with us for a long time, I had the idea to write something to tell the young parents who have a heart for their babies. Most perianal abscesses in babies occur after the first week of life for a number of reasons, but the main reason recognized worldwide is caused by the excess of androgens in the baby during pregnancy. In my experience, the vast majority of patients with perianal abscesses are male babies. 99 out of 100 babies affected are boys. There are many young parents who blame themselves for not taking good care of their babies, but in fact, the most crucial factor is the baby itself. The Western approach is generally to give antibiotics orally or intravenously, the redness is often topical ichthyolite ointment, Bactrim ointment or other ointments, if the baby’s lump disappears, it means that the disease is cured. If the lump does not disappear, but further increases in size, and the swelling pain is more obvious, and there is pus, the only way is to cut open and drain the pus, and then it is to go to the hospital every day to change the medicine. It is especially hard for parents to go to the hospital every day and to see the pain their baby is suffering. But there is no way around it, this is how babies with perianal abscesses are treated. All the doctor can do is to be more considerate of the young parents and be more gentle with the baby’s medication changes in order to give the young parents a little comfort. The TCM approach is usually to give the baby herbal medicine to be taken internally and combined with herbal fumigation before applying the ointment externally. If the lump disappears after treatment, the disease is cured. If the redness, swelling, heat and pain is further aggravated, and there is pus, it should be cut and drained to avoid internal attack of pus and poison. After the incision and drainage, Chinese herbs are used internally, fumigation of the anus and external application of Chinese ointment. We are constantly summing up our experience in treating perianal abscesses and fistulas in babies, and have made a series of homemade herbal fumigants for treating perianal abscesses and fistulas in babies, such as No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and other ointments for external application. Western medicine has the strengths of Western medicine and Chinese medicine has the weaknesses of Chinese medicine. But in the treatment of baby perianal abscess, Chinese medicine has its obvious advantages, with less pain, short course of treatment, no side effects and other advantages, the vast majority of children cured after Chinese medicine treatment and avoid the pain of surgery, and thus welcomed by the parents of many children.
