Tumors can also occur in the external auditory canal and are mostly benign in nature. Benign tumors include: papilloma of the external auditory canal, cerumen tumor of the external auditory canal, hemangioma, osteoma, exophytic bone warts of the external auditory canal, chondrosarcoma of the ear, malignant tumors of pigmented nevi, as well as cerumen adenoma and lymphadenoma. Malignant occurrence in the outer ear is rare. Malignant tumors of the external ear, whether occurring in the auricle or the external auditory canal, are most commonly squamous cell carcinomas. The next most common are basal cell carcinoma of the auricle and adenoid cystic carcinoma of the external auditory canal. Other malignant tumors such as rhabdomyosarcoma and malignant melanoma are extremely rare.
