Understanding what hypnosis is all about

The word Hypnos, derived from the Greek word for “sleep,” was later defined by James Braid, a surgeon in Manchester, England. James Braid defined this medical treatment to reduce patient suffering as Hypnosis.
In Greek mythology, Hypnos was the god of sleep. Hypnos was said to live in the underworld, holding a poppy bud in his left hand and a bull’s horn in his right hand, which was filled with a liquid that could put people to sleep. If his magic wand touched the eyes, both men and gods would fall into sleep irresistibly.
Encyclopædia Britannica word interpretation: Hypnosis (hypnotic state) refers to a special state of consciousness, between half-asleep and half-awake, in which the mind is also responsive to various stimuli. Because of the inappropriate name, it is easy to misunderstand hypnosis as sleep. In fact, the hypnotic state is not the same as the sleep state.
Since the field of hypnosis is extremely broad and there are many methods of guiding hypnosis, and the methods suitable for each person are different, the feeling after entering hypnosis also varies from person to person, and the effect that can be achieved by hypnosis is also different.
In recent years, hypnosis has flourished all over the world, and hypnosis researchers have different definitions of hypnosis according to their different study backgrounds and research directions. Most people’s understanding of hypnosis is like a blind man feeling an elephant. When they feel the elephant’s trunk, they think the elephant is thick and long; when they feel the elephant’s ears, they think the elephant is like a fan ……. They think they know what the elephant looks like, but in fact, they have not told the whole picture of hypnosis.
Based on my own experience and research of hypnosis cases and conducting training courses for many years, the following points are determined.
  1. Hypnosis is not exactly the same as sleep.
  2. Everyone can learn to hypnotize others.
  3. Everyone can learn to be hypnotized.
  4. Everyone can perform self-hypnosis or be guided into hypnosis by others.
  5. Both accepting hypnosis and hypnotizing others will become easier with each hypnotic experience.
  6. People do not necessarily need conscious consent to receive hypnosis.
  7. Consent to hypnosis is sometimes consent at the unconscious level, when the surface consciousness is in an unconscious state.
  8. The control during the hypnotic state is not the same as the control generally understood.
  9. The primary sensory receivers used by each person are different.
  10. Hypnosis can be used to make the human body and mind more pleasant.
  11. The correct use of hypnosis can make people live happier and healthier lives.
  12. Misuse of hypnosis may lead to physical and psychological problems.
  13. Hypnosis can be used in many fields of study, including religion and faith, to help break down blind beliefs and superstitions.
14.People who are often emotionally repressed may have strong emotional or physical reactions when receiving hypnosis, so it is recommended to seek the assistance of a professionally trained hypnotherapist.
15.People who have physical and mental problems and diseases are recommended to seek the assistance of a professionally trained hypnotherapist.
In order to make it easier for you to understand the different aspects of hypnosis, I have divided hypnosis into broad hypnosis and narrow hypnosis according to the mode and state of hypnosis. There are still some overlaps and unfinished aspects of broad hypnosis and narrow hypnosis, so please don’t mistake them for being like cutting a melon in half cleanly.
Broad hypnosis is when we have hypnotized ourselves or accepted the suggestions of others without our surface consciousness being aware of it.” Using the five human senses of sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell, the various physical and psychological sensations that arise when the human desire instinct is aroused, consciously or unconsciously!” . The various emotional and physiological reactions that arise from the feelings of the seven emotions and desires, whether internal or external, self-hypnosis under self-awareness or unawareness, or the suggestion given by others can be considered as broad hypnosis.
Narrow hypnosis is self-hypnosis or receiving hypnotic guidance from others in various ways with our self-knowledge.” Using the five human senses of sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell, concentration is focused so that the brain waves shift from a dominant beta wave, which dominates the operation of surface consciousness, to a shifting consciousness or a deeper and slower frequency state dominated by slower alpha waves, and a relaxation of the body or mind is achieved.”. .
In fact, a focused point, an idea, a picture, a sound, a feeling, an action, a taste, or an event, a memory or even the whole universe can lead a person into a state of broad hypnosis or narrow hypnosis without the person necessarily being aware of it.
To put it more simply, everyone can enter hypnosis, but the time and the way to do so vary, as do the states they enter and the effects they achieve.
The instructions we receive from our society, culture and family from childhood are constructed into our beliefs, perceptions and values, which influence our thinking and attitudes towards life and living throughout our lives.
Hypnosis can be used in a wide range of ways, and when we talk about hypnosis in a broad sense, we actually live in hypnosis every day. When we buy an insurance policy because we agree with what the insurance salesman says; when we watch TV and get involved in the situation of a TV drama, we feel sad and happy with the plot of the drama; when we listen to political figures talking about their ideas and feel impassioned; or when we are scolded by our boss and feel bad; when we fall out of love and feel sad about our abandonment; when we are daydreaming… …These various emotions that result from one’s own feelings or from receiving the influence of others can actually be called a form of receiving self-hypnosis or hypnotizing others.
Mantra holding, scripture reading, meditation, contemplation, pranayama, yoga, painting, running, driving on a straight highway, relaxation on a rocking bus, religious prayer, witch chanting …… and even focused breathing can all lead into a trance state similar to the hypnotic state.
Whether it is the use of words for suggestion or suggestion, or the use of non-verbal physical actions to alter the physical and mental state, these methods or techniques, can be called hypnosis related techniques.
Hypnosis can be used in life, as well as in sales, development of inner potential, and research and development of technological products; the use of childhood regression and exploration of past-life subconscious imagery are hypnotic techniques that have been widely used in recent years. In recent years, more research has been conducted in psychology, psychiatry, medical treatment and the application of hypnotic anesthesia. This psychological technique, which could not be explained by science in the past, is bound to be applied in various fields in a more flexible and diversified manner in the future.
Most of the people who have studied hypnosis think that the word “hypnosis” is not appropriate, and it is easy to misunderstand that “hypnosis is equal to sleep”, “hypnosis only helps sleep”, “hypnosis is equal to keeping people awake”, and “hypnosis is equal to confusing people”. When I give hypnosis-related lectures in some organizations and schools, after I finish the part on hypnosis theory, I often do a group hypnosis experience, so that the group can actually experience what it is like to enter a hypnotic state. At this time, there are always people lying on the table or lying down in a position as if they are ready to have a good sleep. This is because most people do not understand the function of hypnosis and think that receiving hypnotic guidance means they are ready to sleep.
The use of hypnosis to help fall asleep can be very effective indeed. When hypnosis is applied, some people may fall asleep or even feel asleep, but hypnosis is not the same as actually falling asleep!
Using self-hypnosis to rest for a short period of five to ten minutes in the middle of the day, you will be able to regain your energy and strength in a refreshed manner.
The hypnotized person is often able to rest during the “10 ……9 ……8 ……7 ……6 ……5 ……4 ……3 ……2… …a …… open your eyes, come back to the present and feel relaxed ……” after the hypnotic command, open your eyes, as if you had a long and good sleep, with a comfortable feeling back to the present moment. Imagine if you could take a nap after lunch to replenish your energy and spend only five minutes, you would want to try it?
This is one of the magical effects of hypnosis, which can make most people regain their strength and energy in just a few minutes.
Such an effect can be easily achieved with self-hypnosis and hypnosis CDs.
Hypnosis exists in our daily life. When you are attracted to or resistant to the magic of hypnosis, or when you have trust, interest or curiosity in something, or when you are in love or out of love, all of these can be called hypnosis, and these hypnosis may happen in a state of self-awareness but not awareness, and these are all hypnotic phenomena in a broad sense.
The use of any of the five senses of sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell, or the overall receptive effect, can lead people into a hypnotic state. Hypnotic guidance using words plus touching the body is often faster. Most animal hypnosis is guided by touch, but most hypnotic people are still guided by words, so if you know how to use the guidance of words, you can become a master of hypnosis.
The use of hypnosis can be extremely simple and easy to do or profound and difficult to understand. I suggest that beginners gradually understand the feeling of hypnosis and the application techniques when performing hypnosis. Subsequent techniques and theories can be studied and explored gradually or by consulting experts.
To become a professional hypnotist, one needs to learn more theories and techniques. After all, it is not difficult to guide a person into hypnosis, but the difficulty is what to do further after entering hypnosis, and how to help the hypnotized person to face the problems and solve them quickly and effectively. This part of the hypnosis skill is more difficult to learn.
Everyone has different family upbringing and different customs and influences, so they have different learning attitudes, thinking patterns and suitable learning methods, and of course they have different views on hypnosis or hypnotic states. To become a professional hypnotist, one needs to study in depth for a long time and accumulate experience before one can achieve success.
Many people are afraid of learning hypnosis and ask me what is required to learn hypnosis. In fact, everyone can learn hypnosis, and every thought you have every day is already self-hypnosis.
Life itself is learning how to learn. Everyone can learn hypnosis to help themselves and then help others when they have experience and knowledge. Helping people can help themselves, but a more complete and effective helping job is to help people help themselves and help them to be able to face the difficulties in life.
To be a helper, love and patience are absolutely necessary, while empathy and tolerance are indispensable, and curiosity allows a helper to do more research. Curiosity allows a helper to do more research and exploration. The motivation to keep learning allows the worker to have higher competence and more tools. If you don’t have all of the above, I believe you will if you keep on learning!
In fact, in addition to the above “hearts” that a professional helper needs, the most important thing is your trust in the method and your hypnotized person’s trust in you (if you are doing self-hypnosis, then you trust yourself).
To be a professional helper, it is as important to be caring and trustworthy as it is to be skilled, and this is what I have learned from my work.
Learning hypnosis can help us understand subconscious messages and reduce the conflict between the surface and subconscious mind, thus improving the self and transforming character defects. People who have taken many motivational or spiritual growth courses can learn hypnosis to become more flexible in applying the theories and techniques they have previously learned.
When you explore hypnosis in depth, you will find that sometimes because you are so comfortable in the hypnotic state, some people go into a deep state of unconsciousness, as if they are comfortably asleep. Some people feel that hypnosis is like having a dream, and when they wake up they don’t remember the content of the dream but feel relaxed. Others feel as if they had a clear dream, where everything in the dream is vividly remembered, so that they have to believe what they really felt in the dream, yet they have doubts.
Hypnosis allows those who are willing to accept instructions to follow them and think and move. It does seem like a form of control, but with the conscious or unconscious consent of the person. Hypnosis can trigger human creativity and imagination, as if one is weaving a dream before one can realize it!
In my years of research, hypnosis can indeed have many incredible applications, as follows.
  1. Hypnosis can help us face our childhood complexes and adjust our emotions.
  2. Hypnosis can help us face our emotions, enhance our relationships, and increase our motivation at work.
  3. Hypnosis can help us learn to express ourselves, enhance our creativity, and develop our inner potential.
  4. Hypnosis can assist us to establish future goals and help us to accomplish our wishes more smoothly.
  5. Hypnosis can lead us to the subconscious, superconscious and other inner sensory perceptions.
  7. Hypnosis can open up potential and also enhance the ability to receive information.
  10. Hypnosis can improve multiple personalities or hallucinations, hallucinations, and hallucinations.
  11. Hypnosis can harmonize and communicate with the subconscious and unconscious to make life better.
  13. Hypnosis can guide people to recognize some of the wrong views in religious beliefs and help them to face life with a positive cosmic philosophical view and to stop the myths.
Hypnosis is both subtle and vast, from a single electron to the entire cosmic space. Chapter 6 of this book contains a script of hypnotic guidance for various situations, which helps people to learn and apply the techniques and ideas of guided hypnosis from a positive philosophical and scientific perspective.
If you believe, you can easily become the hypnotist who has never studied hypnosis! Now, let’s enter this interesting and mysterious field together!
