The best treatment plan for lung tumors – surgical treatment is the main focus

  Lung cancer is currently the most common malignant tumor and the number one killer among tumors, and surgery is the most important and preferred method to eradicate lung cancer. In recent years, surgical treatment of lung cancer has made another great development. More and more complicated cases can now be completely resected, and combined with adjuvant radiotherapy, chemotherapy and targeted therapy after surgery, satisfactory treatment results can be achieved.
  1.Why surgical treatment is needed
  Lung cancer is a common malignant tumor at present, and its basic treatment principle is comprehensive treatment with surgery as the core. Surgery is the most effective treatment method with the best prognosis, and it is the only treatment method that may completely cure lung cancer. Surgery can completely remove the diseased tissues and the lymph nodes that may be involved, and obtain accurate pathological diagnosis and staging through pathological test reports, which can guide the adjuvant treatment (radiotherapy, chemotherapy, etc.) after surgery to actively prolong the survival time and improve the quality of patients’ survival after surgery.
  2.How to carry out surgical treatment.
  (1) Radical lung cancer resection: Radical lung cancer resection is the most commonly used treatment for early and mid-stage lung cancer, including lobectomy, total lung resection, sleeve resection and other methods. Radical surgery can completely remove the primary diseased tissues and perform systematic clearance of suspected lymph nodes, completely removing all diseased tissues in the body while preserving as much normal lung tissues as possible to ensure the treatment effect of lung cancer patients to the greatest extent.
  (2) Palliative surgery: If the lung cancer is advanced and the lesion cannot be completely removed, palliative surgery is feasible to remove the lesion as much as possible and send it to pathological examination, which can lay the foundation for the next adjuvant treatment on the one hand, and alleviate the discomfort caused by pain, local compression and other tumor complications on the other hand, so as to improve the patient’s survival quality.
  3.What patients are suitable for surgical treatment
  Surgical resection is applicable to most lung cancer patients. All patients with non-small cell lung cancer who have not found distant metastasis, have good general condition and tolerable cardiopulmonary function should be treated by surgery. Early stage of small cell lung cancer should also be actively treated by surgery.
  4.How is the effect of surgical treatment
  The 5-year survival rate after radical lung cancer surgery can reach 70%, which shows that the effect of radical lung cancer resection surgery is very accurate. Surgery can significantly extend the survival period of most lung cancer patients and improve their quality of life. The earlier the stage, the more standardized and thorough the surgical resection, the better the surgical effect!
  5. Advantages of our surgical treatment for lung cancer.
  (1) Surgery according to the best internationally recognized standards, standardized surgery and complete resection
  During surgery, we will not only completely remove the primary cancer foci and systematically clear the lymph nodes in the lung hilum and mediastinum, but also ensure the complete and intact excised tissues through rapid pathological examination during surgery. After the operation, we will send all the resected tissues to pathological examination, and finally arrive at an accurate pathological diagnosis and pathological stage, which will provide the most important basis for guiding whether and how to carry out adjuvant treatment after the operation;
  (2) Maximum preservation of healthy lung tissues and high quality of life after surgery
  At the same time, we focus on improving the quality of life of patients after surgery: we adopt the leading domestic and international technology to preserve as much healthy lung tissue as possible during surgery, and to preserve more adequate lung function;
  (3) Leading and strong surgical technology, able to successfully and safely complete difficult and complex surgeries
  As a key specialty of the Ministry of Health and a clinical research center of Tongji Hospital for lung cancer, we have rich surgical experience and have created a set of systematic, standardized, internationally advanced and effective methods for lung cancer diagnosis and treatment. In addition to conventional surgery, we have also been able to solve difficult surgeries such as tumor invasion of chest wall, pericardium, large blood vessels, left atrium, etc., and have formed a considerable scale;
  (4) Most patients are treated by minimally invasive surgery
  Our department takes the lead in carrying out minimally invasive thoracoscopic surgery in China, especially in Hubei Province, and is capable of performing various types of lung tumor surgery, which has accumulated considerable experience and is at the leading level in China, with satisfactory surgical results and low complication rate. Most of the lung cancer patients in our department are treated by minimally invasive surgery, which is less traumatic, less painful, faster recovery, better surgical results and shorter hospitalization time;
  (5) Proper guidance of post-surgical adjuvant therapy
  The long-term effect of lung cancer treatment is not only affected by the removal of local lesions, but also involves the recurrence of lung cancer and distant metastasis. Therefore, we will guide patients to carry out post-operative adjuvant therapy correctly according to their pathological types and lymph node metastasis after surgery;
  (6) Long-term follow-up service after discharge and long-term surgical rehabilitation guidance
  After patients are discharged from the hospital, we will provide long-term post-operative guidance by telephone, letter and website, to keep abreast of the changes in patients’ conditions and provide information on re-examination and next treatment;
  6.Welcome consultation and treatment
  Patients with lung cancer are welcome to come to our hospital for consultation and treatment. We will analyze comprehensively and weigh repeatedly according to the different conditions of patients, and finally choose the most suitable individualized treatment plan for them.
