Itching in the right ear, if it is only transient and occurs occasionally, is generally normal and may be caused by sensitive skin in the right ear and should not be a concern. If the itching in the right ear is frequent, it may be a harbinger of eczema, and the itching is more severe. It may also be caused by bacterial infection in the right ear due to long-term exposure to a humid, hot environment. There are mainly the following cases: 1. Fungal otitis externa: Early on, there will be itching and stuffy feeling in the ear with a small amount of watery discharge. If the inflammation causes the epithelium of the ear canal and the mycelium to form a scab, blocking the external ear canal or attaching to the eardrum, hearing loss and tinnitus may occur. 2. External ear eczema: This includes acute eczema, subacute eczema, and chronic eczema. Acute eczema is characterized by unbearable itching and a burning sensation in the affected area, and may result in yellow watery discharge. Subacute eczema manifests as itching, but oozing is less than in the acute phase, with crusting and flaking. Chronic eczema may manifest as intense itching in the external ear canal, with thickened skin and flaking. 3. Cerumen embolism: It may manifest as itching in the ear canal, stuffiness in the ear and hearing loss. 4. Allergy: If the ear is exposed to allergenic substances and allergic inflammation occurs, itchy ears may also occur, which may be accompanied by redness and hives.
