Treatment of novel cryptococcal meningitis is often divided into three phases: an induction phase, a consolidation phase and a maintenance phase, which can last up to one year and requires excellent compliance with medication and self-discipline to avoid a relapse due to irregular treatment. If the disease is poorly controlled and may recur, the duration of treatment is correspondingly longer and more difficult to treat.
