How should endometriosis be treated?

Endometriosis is when pieces of the endometrium run outside the uterus. They can cause a range of gynecological symptoms, especially abnormal menstrual irregularities, etc. In severe cases, infertility can occur. So, how should endometriosis be treated? Hormones can improve endocrine secretion, which is very effective for ectopic endometrium affected by ovarian hormone secretion. With the use of hormones to suppress secretion, the ectopic endometrium can be allowed to degenerate and gradually necrotize. Sometimes the ectopic endometrium can be stubborn and will recur as soon as the hormones are stopped. In such cases, surgery is required for treatment. Conservative and semi-conservative surgery is generally recommended for patients who are fertile and young. Since this type of surgery preserves the ovaries, there is still a possibility of recurrence and often requires hormonal adjuvant therapy. Radical surgery involves the removal of the entire uterus and both adnexa and is indicated for older patients who have been sterilized. The choice of treatment for endometriosis should be based on the patient’s specific requirements and the actual condition of the patient, and the choice of treatment should be confirmed after a comprehensive analysis and detailed discussion between the doctor and the patient.
