Diabetic two-hour postprandial blood glucose control is generally recommended to be between 4.4 and 10 mmol/L, but it depends on different diabetic populations. For younger patients with a shorter duration of disease and no complications, blood glucose should be tightly controlled and the two-hour postprandial glucose range should be between 4.4 and 8.0 mmol/l. For patients with gestational diabetes mellitus, the two-hour postprandial glucose should be controlled below 6.7 mmol/l. For middle-aged and older patients with diabetes who have a combination of other chronic complications, the target for two-hour postprandial glucose control is usually 10 mmol/L or less. In older patients, such as diabetics aged 80 to 90 years, the two-hour postprandial blood glucose drops to around 10mmol/L or even 12mmol/L. Therefore, the normal value of diabetic two-hour postprandial glycemia is determined on a patient-by-patient basis by consulting an endocrinologist.
